Wolverine was approached in 2023 to restore the Altar area at St. Aloysius Parish in Downtown Detroit to its former glory after being modernized sometime in the 1970’s.

Only having a handful of photos for reference, mostly in black & white, Wolverine created shop drawings and planned carefully with church leaders to recreate the Altar floor plan as accurately as possible.

Much effort was applied to finding appropriate material matches for this spectacular structure. Pewabic tiles are featured throughout the church. New Pewabic tile pieces were installed at the stair risers to recreate the original altar. Wolverine reviewed tile options diligently with Pewabic and the church to approve the color, size, shape, and design of each tile in addition to the overall pattern in order to re-create a cohesiveness between the original and new Pewabic.
